We were absolutely delighted when Kenneth & Ogechi chose us to photograph their big African Wedding! Not only were they a lovely couple but this was to be our first experience of an African Wedding!
The weather was perfect – a warm sunny day with bright blue skies! We met with Ogechi and her bridesmaids (& later her parents and a few friends!) at the Crown Plaza in London’s Docklands! The view from Ogechi’s balcony room was fantastic and allowed us the enviable backdrop for some natural reportage of a smiling Ogechi in the morning! We also took advantage of the scenery and popped outside with her 4 bridesmaids to get some lovely walking shots of the girls along the bank.
We left Ogechi to meet Kenneth and his entourage at the church – the courtyard was already brimming with a multitude of brightly coloured African dress, which is every photographers dream and whilst Mark took some great shots of the guys, I busied myself taking lots of fantastic reportage shots of the guests milling around and catching up with one another before the start of the ceremony!

After a beautiful ceremony with nearly 200 guests, we worked our way through the family shots, thanks to the excellent management of some very organised ushers, and then while the guests moved onto the reception venue (Stratford Town Hall) we took some quiet time in East Ham park to take some lovely romantic pictures of the happy couple!
Perhaps our favourite part of the day was back at the reception where all the guests were seated except the immediate family who then danced into the hall in their traditional African dress to traditional African music! The atmosphere was electric, the colours amazing and we both had smiles from ear to ear! After the parents had been seated it was then the turn of Kenneth & Ogechi with their friends to dance into the hall. It started with their friends and then from the middle came the newlyweds, who came to a stop in the middle with all their friends and family dancing around them! I also got caught up in the middle, just infront of them and found myself dancing whilst at the same time taking some great close in shots of their friends dancing and sharing the celebration!

The evening was filled with some great speeches, lots more music and dancing, including a tribal dance group and then the couple changed from their wedding attire into their new married African dress and again, were welcomed into the hall with more dancing and celebration! The partying went on until late in the evening and a great time was had by all!
We felt very welcome at the wedding thanks to Kenneth & Ogechi, their friends, family and all their guests who were delighted to fill us in on their African customs. We learnt a lot and were delighted to be a part of their big day! We hope they love their photo’s and wish them a very happy future together!
